Michael Smerconish has spent most of his career as radio talk show host, and he’s putting his experience into a new fictional thriller called, “Talk.”
The book, according to Politico, follows a rising star in conservative talk radio who is forced to balance his ambition with his conscience as he wields outsize influence in the crucial state of Florida during a presidential election.
“I definitely have a message to the book, and I wanted people to read it and wonder if that’s really the way that it works,” said Smerconish, who has tried to succeed in talk radio without being bombastic, in an interview. “This is the message that I carry. It’s a message of polarization and gridlock in Washington.”
Smerconish, who recently got his own show on CNN, knows perfectly well that, on air, the loud voices tend to attract the most listeners, but he’s not tempted to join the cacophony.
