Kim Harvey Promoted To President/CBS News


CBS News has named Kim Harvey as the new executive producer of the CBS EVENING NEWS, it was announced today by Tom Cibrowski, president and executive editor of CBS News.

Harvey is the second woman to helm the CBS EVENING NEWS, America’s longest-running nightly newscast. The broadcast was originally launched in 1948 as CBS TV NEWS and has marked 77 years on the airwaves.

“Kim brings a sharp news sense and terrific track record of producing from across the broadcast and cable networks. She is a well-respected newsroom leader and her relationships with our on-air talent, producers and reporters run deep,” said Cibrowski. “Her career at the CBS EVENING NEWS makes her the ideal candidate and I’m pleased to continue working with her on showcasing our extraordinary reporting and storytelling every night.”

I look forward to leading our incredible group of journalists as we deliver the latest news, original reporting and memorable stories to our audience every night.”

Harvey is a veteran broadcast and cable news journalist with 25 years of experience producing at CBS News, MSNBC, Fox News and CNN. She has produced breaking and live news coverage ranging from the 9/11 terrorist attacks, the COVID-19 pandemic, presidential elections and numerous natural disasters. Most recently, she covered the funeral of Pope Francis from Rome.

Harvey began her television career at CNN as a video journalist at the network’s headquarters in Atlanta, Ga. She was soon promoted to associate producer, where she worked for “The Point with Greta Van Susteren” and “American Morning” with Paula Zahn. After several years at CNN, Harvey worked at Fox News where she produced for the #1 primetime program “The O’Reilly Factor,” as well as “Fox News Live.”

Throughout her career, Harvey has earned multiple awards and nominations. She was recognized with an Emmy for “All in with Chris Hayes” for a report on poverty in America and “The Rachel Maddow Show” for Maddow’s reporting from Afghanistan. She was honored with an NABJ award for the CBS EVENING NEWS and its “Eye on America” segment about racial disparities in heart disease risk and care.
