Chicago Radio: PD Laura Duncan To Exit WXRT

Laura Duncan, Brand Manager of Audacy’s adult alternative station “93 XRT” WXRT in Chicago, has announced her decision to step down from her role this fall.

Duncan, who joined the iconic station in October 2021, brought nearly two decades of experience from Sarkes Tarzian, where she served as Program Director and afternoon host at WTTS (92.3) in Indianapolis and as Program Director and Music Director at co-owned modern/alternative rock station WGBJ (102.3) in Fort Wayne.

In a statement, Duncan expressed that leading WXRT was the realization of a lifelong ambition.

“Working at WXRT was a lifelong goal for me, and I’ve been awed by the caliber of talent at 93XRT during my tenure,” she said. She highlighted the station’s legendary personalities, including Lin Brehmer, Terri Hemmert, Frank E. Lee, Marty Lennartz, and Johnny Mars, calling them “heroes who really lived up to my expectations.”

Duncan also took pride in her contributions to WXRT’s storied legacy, particularly in introducing new voices like Annalisa and Andy Chanley, whom she noted “sound like they’ve always been part of the fabric of XRT.” These personalities, along with the station’s meticulous music curators, have played a pivotal role in introducing Chicago and the nation to some of the most influential artists over the past five decades, from folk and rock to alternative and indie.

The station achieved strong ratings and launched creative promotions that resonated with its loyal listener base. Notable events included live music showcases and partnerships with local venues, further cementing WXRT’s role as a tastemaker in the adult alternative genre.

As she prepares to leave, Duncan expressed excitement about her next chapter, though she did not disclose specific plans. “Now, it’s time for me to meet new challenges and opportunities, and do what I’ve loved doing since I was 14 years old… enjoy listening to XRT,” she said, signaling her intent to remain a devoted fan of the station she helped shape.Duncan’s departure comes at a time when WXRT continues to thrive as one of Audacy’s flagship stations, celebrated for its authenticity and influence in the adult alternative format.
