iHeartMedia has launched a new Contemporary Hit Radio (CHR) station in Mobile, Alabama, branded as “99.5 Kiss FM.”
The format change took effect at 9 a.m. Monday, replacing the “Sports Talk 99.5” programming that had aired on the Mobile-licensed FM translator W258AY at 99.5 FM, which originates from WRKH-HD2.
The move gives iHeartMedia a dedicated CHR outlet in the market, complementing its existing country, classic rock, adult contemporary, hip-hop/R&B, rock, and news/talk stations.
Regional President Ronnie Bloodworth said the launch aims to broaden the company’s audience by targeting younger listeners with current hit music.
"This is a big moment for radio in Mobile," Bloodworth said in a statement. "Kiss 99.5 raises the bar, bringing a high-energy station built around today's biggest hits and a commitment to connecting with our city in a whole new way."
The station features a lineup of six daily shows anchored by syndicated iHeartRadio talent. Morning drive is led by “The Alabama Show” with Alabama Cole and Producer Blake, who are based at co-owned CHR station “103.7 The Q” (WQEN) in Birmingham. Other personalities include Zach Dillon, Elizabethany, Mike McCabe, Crystal Rosas, Rach, and Enrique Santos.
"Growing up in Alabama, I have so many fond memories of vacationing on the Gulf Coast," Cole said. "I am thrilled to wake up with Mobile every morning and become a part of the community."
The introduction of “99.5 Kiss FM” marks iHeartMedia’s entry into the competitive CHR format in the Mobile market, positioning the company to attract a younger demographic with mainstream contemporary hits.
