Fox News led as the most-watched cable network during the summer period from Memorial Day to Labor Day 2025, surpassing all major broadcast networks in primetime viewership.
Nielsen Media Research data shows Fox News averaged 2.873 million primetime viewers from May 26 to August 29, outperforming ABC (2.498 million), NBC (2.468 million), CBS (2.087 million), and Fox (1.175 million). MSNBC and CNN trailed with 1.052 million and 550,000 primetime viewers, respectively.
Fox News attributed its dominance to consistent programming despite major news events like the Minnesota lawmakers' murders, Los Angeles ICE protests, the Trump-Putin summit in Alaska, and catastrophic flooding in central Texas and Milwaukee.
Top shows included Jesse Watters Primetime (3.230 million viewers at 8 p.m. ET), Gutfeld! (2.936 million at 10 p.m. ET), and Hannity (2.880 million at 9 p.m. ET). The Five, the network’s top show overall, led in total viewers and the 25-54 demographic but airs outside primetime (8-11 p.m. ET).
Fox News Media president Jay Wallace credited the success to top-tier talent, compelling storytelling, on-scene reporting, and a commitment to educating and informing viewers, per TVNewser.
