“Mike’s proven leadership and collaboration over the past decade make him the perfect partner to lead Comcast’s growth strategy,” said Roberts. “I’m excited to work with him as Co-CEO and our talented management team for years to come.”
Cavanagh, who joined Comcast in 2015 as CFO and now serves as President, said, “It’s an honor to work with Brian and the Comcast NBCUniversal team during this transformative time.”
Before Comcast, Cavanagh spent over 20 years in financial services, including as Co-CEO of JPMorgan Chase’s Corporate & Investment Bank and as its CFO for six years, guiding the firm through the financial crisis.
The 59-year-old Cavanagh will assume Comcast’s Co-CEO role amid a turbulent time for traditional media. Comcast’s cable business is losing subscribers as audiences shift to broadband platforms for entertainment, news, and sports. To adapt, Comcast is spinning off its legacy cable assets from NBCUniversal into a new company, Versant, wagering that its broadcast and streaming operations will thrive without being tied to cable channels like E!, CNBC, or Syfy.
