Mickey Wants More: Sub Prices Rising For Disney+, Hulu

Disney is raising subscription prices for its streaming services amid controversy over its handling of Jimmy Kimmel. Effective October 21, Disney+’s ad-supported plan will rise $2 to $11.99, and its ad-free tier will increase $3 to $18.99. Hulu’s ad-supported plan will also increase $2 to $11.99, while ESPN Select will go up $1 to $12.99. Several Disney+ bundles will see price hikes as well.

Disney typically adjusts prices in October, as seen in 2023 and 2024, and a source confirmed to CNN that subscribers were informed Tuesday, calling the increases routine.

However, the timing is awkward. Disney faced backlash after briefly pulling Kimmel’s show following threats from the Trump-aligned FCC chairman to revoke ABC affiliate licenses over Kimmel’s remarks about Charlie Kirk’s suspected killer.

This sparked an organic boycott, with Howard Stern publicly canceling his Disney+ subscription in support of Kimmel.

Disney reinstated Kimmel’s show on Monday for a Tuesday return, but the move has drawn ire from MAGA media commentators. Additionally, Disney is clashing with Sinclair and Nexstar, which control over 20% of ABC affiliates and continue to preempt Kimmel’s broadcasts.
