Dave Edmunds, an 81-year-old Welsh rock musician, is critically ill in a hospital following a major cardiac arrest on July 29, 2025. His wife, Cici Edmunds, shared the news on Facebook, detailing how Dave briefly "died in her arms" before being revived through intensive CPR by a nurse at their home in Rockfield, Monmouthshire.
Despite being resuscitated and intubated in the ICU, Edmunds has sustained brain damage and severe memory loss, with a high risk of another cardiac arrest that could be fatal. Cici described the traumatic experience, noting she believes she has PTSD from it, and asked for fans' prayers and support. She emphasized that Dave faces a "very long journey ahead" if he survives.
Edmunds rose to fame in the 1970s, first as the frontman of the blues rock band Love Sculpture, which released the album Blues Helping in 1968 and scored a UK top-five hit with a cover of Khachaturian’s “Sabre Dance.” After the band’s breakup, he achieved solo success with his 1970 Christmas No. 1 single “I Hear You Knocking,” which also reached No. 3 in the US.
Other notable hits include “Girls Talk” (written by Elvis Costello), “Baby I Love You,” and “Born to Be With You.” In 1975, he formed Rockpile with Nick Lowe, releasing the acclaimed album Seconds of Pleasure in 1980, though the band split soon after due to tensions.
Edmunds also worked as a producer for artists like Paul McCartney, Stray Cats, Status Quo, and the Fabulous Thunderbirds, and collaborated with Jeff Lynne on his 1983 album Information.
He toured with Ringo Starr’s All-Starr Band in 1992 and 2000 and released his final album, On Guitar… Rags & Classics, in 2015, before retiring in 2017 after a few shows.
Fans and friends have flooded Cici’s post with support, expressing hope for Dave’s recovery while acknowledging the severity of his condition. Cici herself has been battling health issues, having been hospitalized in July for pancreatic attacks and struggling with significant weight loss.
