98.5 The Sports Hub host Michael Felger has addressed his absence from Monday’s Felger and Mazz show, revealing a dramatic incident that led to his hospitalization.
“I was airlifted off Nantucket after a bike accident,” Felger shared, surprising co-host Tony Massarotti and guest Michael Holley. “It was intense for 12 to 18 hours, but thankfully less serious than it seemed.”
The Boston Globe reports Felger fell off his bike Saturday night on Nantucket, likely hitting his neck on the handlebars. “It happened so fast,” he said. “I buckled, hit the handlebars, and bam!”
Initially dismissing the soreness, he visited Nantucket Cottage Hospital the next day at his daughter’s urging. Scans revealed air pockets in his neck, prompting an urgent helicopter transfer to Massachusetts General Hospital for advanced care.
“They found air where it shouldn’t be,” Felger recounted. “I thought I’d get a clean X-ray and leave, but they said, ‘We need to move you fast.’”
While he feared potential neck or throat surgery, tests ultimately showed no significant damage, and surgery wasn’t needed.

Felger expressed gratitude to Nantucket Cottage Hospital, Boston MedFlight, and Mass. General staff. Reflecting on the incident, he called himself “a big dummy” for losing balance while cycling in the dark. “It was all on me,” he admitted.
