San Diego Radio: KFMB-FM Goes Big

A spin of Queen’s “We Will Rock You,” at Noon Monday marked the roll out of KFMB 100.7 BIG FM , a station with a bigger music library, playing a bigger variety of songs you like.

100.7 BIG FM promises to be different, unconventional, bold, and where “we play anything.”

Expect the biggest artists on 100.7 BIG FM like Aerosmith, Prince, Queen, Madonna, Fleetwood Mac, Bon Jovi, Adele, Depeche Mode, Billy Idol, the Beatles, Michael Jackson, Duran Duran, Phil Collins, Coldplay, the Rolling Stones, Bob Marley, and hundreds more. The 100.7 BIG FM music library is so vast and expansive; it is unpredictable what you will hear next.

On December 30, 2019, TEGNA reached an agreement to sell KFMB-AM-FM to Local Media San Diego for $5 million, putting them back under common control with its three Mexican-licensed stations. The deal broke up the KFMB AM-FM-TV station cluster after 60 years and did not include the rights to the KFMB call letters.  Local Media entered into a 10-year lease of the transmitter site on Mount Soledad as part of the sale. On January 28, 2020, ahead of the closure, it was announced that the entire airstaff would be exiting on February 7, 2020, which was when they expected the sale to be closed.

The sale was ultimately completed on March 17, 2020; while KFMB-AM was immediately divested to iHeartMedia.
