“The format and sound of today’s radio newscasts owe a lot to Harvey Nagler,” said Chris Carl, Chairman of RTDNA. “The many awards and accolades earned by CBS Radio News are proof that he stands for innovation and integrity.”
The award will be presented on Friday, September 5 at 4:30pm CT at the Excellence in Journalism 2014 national convention, at the Gaylord Opryland Resort and Convention Center in Nashville, Tennessee. The ceremony will be followed by a reception.
Harvey Nagler was named Vice President, CBS Radio News in January 1998. He is responsible for CBS News radio operations worldwide, including news gathering and programming and its relationship with its thousands of affiliated stations around the country. Nagler had served as General Manager, CBS Radio News (1997-98).
The network has won dozens of national and international awards during his tenure, including RTDNA’s Edward R. Murrow “Overall Excellence Award” for an unprecedented seven years in a row. In March, 2010, Nagler was honored with the RTNDF’s First Amendment Service Award, which is presented to a person of distinction who works in an off-air, management capacity.
Prior to joining CBS Radio News, Nagler was Director, News and Programming for WCBS-AM Newsradio 88 (1987-97). Nagler developed and implemented several practices which have since been adopted or imitated by hundreds of stations across the country, including the slogan, “traffic and weather, together on the ‘eights’” and “guaranteed weather.”
