Radio Revenue: WTOP Again Top Billing Station

Hubbard's News WTOP 103.5 FM in Washington, D.C. again tops the list of radio station that led the way in billing for 2013.

According to BIA/Kelsey's Senior VP/Chief Economist Mark Fratrik, WTOP took in $1.1million less than 2012, but its $63.5 million in 2013 is best in the nation.  WTOP beat out the second-highest biller, Clear Channel's Top40 KIIS-FM in Los Angeles at $61.6 million. KIIS-FM added $4.8 million in billing over 2012.

Rounding out the top 10 billers:
  • WHTZ-FM NYC (Clear Channel) $51 million (Top40)
  • WCBS-AM NYC (CBS) $50.5 million (News)
  • WLTW NYC (Clear Channel) $45.5 million (AC)
  • WINS NYC (CBS) $45 million (News
  • KBIG-FM  LA (Clear Channel) $44.5 million, up from #13 in 2012 (HotAC)
  • WFAN  NYC (CBS) $43 million (Sports)
  • KROQ-FM LA (CBS) $42.8 million (Rock)
  • WBBM Chicago (CBS) $42 million (News)
Fratrik said, “WTOP is morphing into a digital media company by providing access to its audience in many different ways beyond over-the-air. Their approach is serving them well and their model demonstrates that as the industry continues to adopt a multi-platform approach, it will engage audiences and sustain growth."

CBS Radio had five of the top ten billing radio stations in 2013 with a total of $223 million, a net gain of $8.6.

Four out of the five CBS stations increase in revenue for the year:  WCBS-AM (#4) increased from $47.2 Million to $50.5 Million, WINS (#6) jumped from $41.5 Million to $45 Million, Sports Radio WFAN in New York (#8) increased from $41 Million to $43 Million and KROQ-FM in LA went from $39.3 Million to $42.8 Million.Only WBBM in Chicago was down, from $45.7 Million to $42 Million
