Providence Radio: John DePetro Back On-Air At WPRO-AM

John DePetro
Embattled WPRO 630 AM / 99.7 FM talk-show host John DePetro returned to the airwaves Monday morning after several weeks away from the microphone amid a campaign to oust him, according to the Providence Journal.

DePetro, who came under fire for his language in criticizing female protesters outside a fundraiser for General Treasurer Gina M. Raimondo, was unapologetic. He characterized the criticism as an attempt by politicians and unions to stifle free speech.

"It's very simple," DePetro said. "Politicians and unions should not interfere and try to silence public opinion. Period. That's it."

"They want to silence the people. The last time I checked, this is still America."

DePetro's first two callers were women. Both were supportive of the host.

After DePetro called the union protesters "parasites," "cockroaches," "hags" and "whores," a union-backed group called For Our Daughters RI created a petition on Change.org seeking his removal.

A total of 6,695 people had electronically "signed" the petition.
