UPDATE 0708/13 12N: Cody Jamal Mathis, 17, the suspect in the June murder of
David Rutherford of Columbus, surrendered to police Sunday afternoon 07/07/2013. The Columbus teen gave himself up to officers
around 4:45 p.m. at the office of his attorney Stacey Jackson. Mathis was then taken to the Muscogee County
Jail.

57-year-old David Rutherford was found behind Greater Ward
Chapel AME Church Wednesday. WTVM-TV reported that the man’s death has been
ruled a homicide.
Rutherford, originally from New Jersey , became a taxi driver after
retiring from Magic 101.3 FM, now WAGH.
Neighbors told the television station they heard Rutherford being robbed outside of his house.
