Unionized staffers at Audacy’s all-news radio station 1010 WINS in New York, represented by the Writers Guild of America East (WGAE), have reached a tentative collective bargaining agreement with their employer, Audacy.
The agreement was ratified by an overwhelming majority of WGAE members at 1010 WINS, marking the conclusion of negotiations that began as the previous contract was set to expire on July 22, 2025.
While specific details of the tentative deal were not disclosed in the available information, the union's prior demands included improved salaries, benefits, pathways to promotion, workplace safety, remote work options, severance protections, and safeguards against the growing use of artificial intelligence.
Workplace safety was a key concern, particularly for journalists working overnight shifts, as some had faced threats or attacks while commuting to Audacy’s offices at 345 Hudson Street in lower Manhattan.
This agreement follows a period of tension, as more than 90% of the bargaining unit signed a petition in July 2025 urging Audacy to negotiate a fair deal, with a focus on addressing these issues.
The negotiations were the first since Audacy shut down WCBS Newsradio 880 in August 2024, which resulted in the layoff of 23 WGAE members. The ratified agreement ensures that 1010 WINS, the longest-running all-news station in the U.S., continues to operate as New York’s only 24/7 all-news radio station.
