MSNBC Rebrand to MS NOW Mocked

MSNBC unexpectedly the rebranding to MS NOW, prompting sharp criticism and mockery on social media.

A Bluesky user ridiculed the new logo, noting that an American flag beside “MS NOW” resembled “KMS NOW,” an acronym for “kill myself.”

The new name, standing for “My Source News Opinion World,” was unveiled despite prior assurances from executives that MSNBC’s name would remain unchanged.

The rebrand, which severs ties with NBC, drew ire from figures like former NBC anchor Megyn Kelly, who posted on X, “MSNBC gets shivved by NBC (can’t share our respected name!),” mocking NBC’s perceived need to protect its reputation.

Morning Joe’s Joe Scarborough announced the change on-air.

Mark Lazarus, CEO of the forthcoming spinoff company housing MS NOW, assured staff in a memo that the brand’s audience commitment remains unchanged.

Network head Rebecca Kutler hinted at internal debates over removing “NBC,” stating the decision followed “significant debate” and an eight-month effort to “untether” from NBC News under the new Versant structure. Kutler highlighted hiring dozens of reporters and leaders, recruiting for nearly 100 roles, and boosting non-linear platforms like YouTube, TikTok, and audio, while developing a direct-to-consumer product.
