Tom Llamas, the new anchor of NBC Nightly News, plans to host the national newscast live from an outdoor location in downtown Chicago on Thursday, July 10, 2025, at 5:30 p.m. CT (6:30 p.m. ET).
Specifically, he will broadcast from outside NBC Tower at Cityfront Plaza in Streeterville.
This marks the second time in his tenure as anchor, which began on June 2, 2025, that Llamas has taken the New York-based program on the road, following a broadcast from a Texas flood zone on Monday.
Llamas aims to include a segment on Pope Leo XIV, who grew up in south suburban Dolton, during the Chicago broadcast. His visit coincides with strong local viewership, as NBC Nightly News saw a 29% year-over-year increase in Chicago’s 25-to-54 demographic for June 2025, per Nielsen data from NBC 5 Chicago.
