Joey Mitchell (1947-2024)
Sacramento radio legend Joey Mitchell has died after a battle with a lung condition, according to Fox40 citing a press release from his family.

Mitchell was a presence on Sacramento airwaves for over 50 years on stations 1140 KRAK Country, Cool Oldies 101.1 and 101.5 KHITS. Mitchell officially retired from radio on March 2021 and launched a podcast.

According to family, Mitchell battled Interstitial Lung Disease (ILD), a lung condition that was complicated by double pneumonia.

“Joey was a cherished voice in the community, a friend to many, a lifetime New York Yankees fan, and a passionate advocate for the causes he believed in,” the release said. “In honor of Joey’s legacy, the family kindly requests privacy during this difficult time.”

The family plans to have a celebration of life, which will be announced at a later date.

In lieu of sending gifts of flowers, family members ask for donations to be made to the Make-A-Wish foundation in Mitchell’s name, as a “fitting tribute” to his joy of to bringing happiness to others including fulfilling the wishes of children in need.

“Joey’s warm presence will be dearly missed, but his impact on the community and the lives he touched will continue to resonate,” Mitchell’s family said. “He would have wanted to extend a personal farewell to each individual he met, thanking them for their friendship and support throughout his journey if he could.”
