Wake-Up Call: Trump Expected To Announce Bid Next Week

Donald Trump
Former President Donald Trump is leaning toward announcing his 2024 presidential run as early as the week of Nov. 14. Last Thursday night in Iowa, Donald Trump, who has been teasing a 2024 run at rallies across the country for several months, got the closest he has come to confirming he will run. Trump told the crowd of supporters, "In order to make our country successful, and safe and glorious, I will very, very, very probably do it again." He's conflicted on the timing and nothing is ever certain but people who have been close to him for many years are lacing up for the next race.

➤TRUMP-DeSANTIS ADMIRATION SOCIETY BRUISED:  Former President Donald J. Trump hasn’t endorsed Gov. Ron DeSantis this year because, as he has explained, his fellow Floridian never asked. DeSantis didn’t attend the Trump rally on Sunday in Miami, his allies said, because he wasn’t personally invited. Bruised egos are commonplace in politics. But rarely has a rift at the top of a party spilled so fully into view at such a pivotal moment, reports The NYTimes. At a rally on Saturday night in Latrobe, Pa., Trump bestowed one of his signature nicknames on Mr. DeSantis: Ron DeSanctimonious.  Their escalating tensions took center stage on Sunday, with dueling campaign rallies in Florida just two days before voting concludes in the 2022 midterm elections. Mr. Trump campaigned in South Florida with Senator Marco Rubio and other Florida Republicans, while Mr. DeSantis made his case for re-election during a set of events along the state’s west coast. Trump didn’t repeat the taunt on Sunday, and Mr. DeSantis didn’t mention the former president at his events.

➤ARIZONA ELECTION WORKERS FACE VIOLENT THREATS WITH MIDTERMS AROUND THE CORNER: Election workers in Arizona are facing more heat ahead of the state’s midterm elections, including harassment, intimidation, and death threats. Poll workers in Maricopa County received at least 140 threats between July 11 and Aug. 22, this is the same county where a 2020 Biden-win resulted in a massive vote audit at the instructions of Republican officials and voters.

💸POWERBALL GRAND PRIZES IS NOW $1.9B:  The Powerball lottery grand prize jackpot has reached a record $1.9 billion after no tickets matched Saturday’s drawing. The next drawing is Monday night. It’s been 40 drawings with no grand prize winner, going all the way back to Aug. 3. At $1.9 billion, the jackpot’s lump-sum cash payout would be an estimated $929.1 million. Players could also choose to get an annual payout over a number of years. The amount of time since the last grand prize was claimed ties the record for the number of consecutive drawings without a winner. There were 16 tickets that won $1 million each and 1 ticket that matched enough to win $2 million. The odds of winning Monday’s grand prize drawing are 1 in 292.2 million.

➤HOW WINNING THE LOTTERY COULD BANKRUPT YOU: If you didn't win the Powerball over the weekend, maybe this will surprise you: Lottery winners still run into financial difficulty. The average person in their 20s, 30s, or 40s who is given a large financial gift quickly loses half the money, either through frivolous spending or poor investments. One-third of lottery winners go bankrupt! How is this possible? Lottery playing peaks in one's 30s and the average American lives to 75 or 80. This means even if you win big, you have 45 years or more to spend. If you ever do win the grand prize, plan ahead and keep an eye on your purse strings!

🎥‘BLACK ADAM’ HOLDS THE TOP SPOT AT THE DOMESTIC BOX OFFICE:  As theaters prepare for the release of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever next weekend, Black Adam has maintained a steady hold on the top spot at the domestic box office. The film brought in $18.5 million during its third weekend. Meanwhile, Crunchyroll’s One Piece Film Red came in second place, falling short of its $10 million projections at $9.47 million. Box Office Numbers from Friday through Sunday:

1. Black Adam, $18.5 million
2. One Piece Film Red, $9.47 million
3. Ticket to Paradise, $8.5 million
4. Smile, $4 million
5. Prey for the Devil, $3.875 million
6. Lyle, Lyle Crocodile, $3.36 million
7. Banshees of Inisherin, $2 million
8. Till, $1.875 million
9. Halloween Ends, $1.44 million
10. Terrifier 2, $1.22 million

🦷STUDY: HALF OF DENTISTS SAY PATIENTS ARE HIGH DURING CHECKUPS:  If you have a dentist appointment, using marijuana might seem like a way to relieve anxiety, but the American Dental Association advises against this seemingly common practice. A recent poll found 52% of dentists think a significant number of their patients are high, either on marijuana or another drug, when they're getting a checkup. "Unfortunately, sometimes having marijuana in your system results in needing an additional visit," Dr. Tricia Quartey said. This is because doctors will limit available treatments if you're high, and the impact of drugs could interfere with the effectiveness of anesthesia. "The best treatment options are always ones a dentist and patient decide on together. A clear head is essential for that," Dr. Quartey added.

➤THE TWITTER MISSION:
Twitter Inc's new CEO Elon Musk said on Sunday the social media platform's mission was to become the most accurate source of information about the world, sparking debate about how it would achieve that and who determines what is accurate. A flurry of drastic measures including sacking half the staff and charging users that Musk has taken since he took over Twitter in a $44 billion deal just about a week ago has provided some early clues to how the platform will be reshaped by the world's richest person. His tweet instantly triggered tens of thousands replies and provoked lively debates on how the mission will be achieved. "Accurate to who?," Twitter founder and former CEO Jack Dorsey asked. The self-described free speech absolutist said at the time that no major content decisions or account reinstatements will happen before that council convenes. Musk also said on Sunday Twitter users engaging in impersonation without clearly specifying it as a "parody" account will be permanently suspended without a warning.

⁡🍎APPLE WORKING ON DROPPING HEY FROM 'HEY SIRI': Apple is working on changing how its Siri voice assistant works. Currently you have to say “Hey Siri” to activate the assistant hands-free, but that may not be the case for much longer. Apple engineers are working to drop the “Hey” part of the phrase, that means you'll only have to say “Siri” followed by a command to activate the assistant. Apple is currently testing the change with employees and is collecting the necessary training data as part of that process. One of the specific challenges is making sure Siri is able to understand the wake word in multiple different accents and dialects.

🌧TROPICAL SYSTEM TAKES AIM ON FLORIDA EAST COAST: A weather system brewing in the Atlantic Ocean north of Puerto Rico may hit Florida’s east coast as a tropical storm or hurricane later this week, the National Hurricane Center said Sunday. The low-pressure area could become a tropical or subtropical storm by Sunday night or early Monday, the hurricane center said. The system is forecast to approach parts of the Bahamas and coastal Florida at or near hurricane strength on Wednesday and Thursday, about six weeks after Hurricane Ian made landfall and devastated parts of southwest Florida. Gov. Ron DeSantis on Sunday encouraged Floridians to be prepared. “Hurricane season is apparently not done with us yet,” said Mike Brennan, the hurricane center’s acting deputy director, during a briefing Sunday.

Central Florida Forecast

The scale of the system is very large, which means it will likely affect a wide area no matter where the center goes, he said. Hurricane-hunter aircraft are expected to fly through the developing system on Monday to further explore its formation.
