Nashville Radio: WGFX Hosts Charity Hoops Tourney

Cumulus Media announces that Nashville sports radio station WGFX-FM 104-5 The Zone’s Midday 180 hosted a charity basketball tournament on Thursday, March 14th at East Nashville Magnet High School.

The event, tagged “Z-O-N-E” (a game similar to the popular “H-O-R-S-E” basketball game), raised $32,510 for the Tennessee Chapter of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. The fundraiser is part of a campaign by 104-5 The Zone midday host, Jonathan Hutton, and his team at 104-5 The Zone to raise funds and awareness for the Tennessee Chapter of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.

The winner of the Z-O-N-E tournament was Titans Pro Bowl Punter Brett Kern, who won 6 suite tickets (Two Rivers Ford Suite) to the SEC Championship game Sunday, March 17th, at Bridgestone Arena.

Kern auctioned the tickets and donated the money to Hutton's Leukemia & Lymphoma Society campaign since he was unable to attend. Tennessee Vols basketball legend Ron Slay was also at the tournament and participants were able to donate $10 for each shot that Slay made for them. Slay went 10 for 13, with $130 donated to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.

Hutton said: "What TeamHutton1045 and Midday 180 were able to raise in the four-hour show was incredible. The listeners of 104-5 The Zone continue to raise the bar in support of our community. Best of all, every dollar raised went straight to the Tennessee chapter of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, which continues to raise the bar for blood cancer research. Beating cancer is in our blood."
