Atlantic City Radio: WOND-AM Adds T-FM Simulcast

Dave Coskey, president of the station’s parent company Longport Media has announced WOND 1400 AM started simulcasting on 92.5 T-FM at about 3:45 p.m. Monday.

Simulcasting the AM station — which Coskey said traditionally skews to an older demographic — on FM radio waves could bring in younger audiences. This could be most helpful in times of emergency, such as when WOND broadcast 24 hours a day during the last two hurricanes, he said.

“In other markets, when AM stations have added an FM frequency, you pick up a younger demographic,” he said. “We’ve been up for more than a quarter of a century and been kind of the news talk leader in radio in South Jersey. We hope to expand that.”

On its AM signal, WOND currently reaches audiences spanning Delaware to Monmouth County, he said.

It will still be about six months until the FM signal can be heard at its clearest, he said.
“We’re all about making WOND programming available on as many platforms as we can,” said Paul Kelly, vice president of Longport’s broadcast operations. In addition to the FM expansion, he cited the station’s exposure on the Tune In mobile application and online streaming.
