NYC Radio: The Derek Jeter Story Drove Ratings

Call it the Derek Jeter effect, according to David Hinckley at The NY Daily News.

Among the many other benefits of The Captain's last days in Yankee pinstripes, it jacked up ratings for both of the city's sports-talk radio stations, WFAN 660 AM / 101.9 FM and WEPN 98.7 FM.

Hinckley points out that during the September-October Nielsen ratings, WFAN leapt from 3.6% of the overall city audience to 4.6%, good for sixth place. WEPN rose from 1.4% to 2.0%.

The WFAN morning show of Boomer Esiason and Craig Carton vaulted from ninth place to fifth place, and its share of advertiser-coveted 25- to 54-year-old listeners zoomed from 3.2% to 4.5%, moving WFAN from 13th place to sixth.

WCBS 101.1 FM remained No. 1 overall, but its share of the audience was down - suggesting some men, in particular, were picking sports over classic hits.

WHTZ 100.3 FM was first overall among 25- to 54-year-olds.
