Since 2014, Edison Research’s Share of Ear® study has tracked how Americans aged 13+ engage with audio daily. Over the past eleven years, podcasts have become a key part of the audio landscape.
For the first time podcasts now account for an equal share of daily listening time as AM/FM radio in this age group, with each capturing 14% of total audio time.
Podcast listening has grown across all ages, but the surge is most striking among younger listeners.
In 2014, AM/FM radio dominated among 18–29-year-olds, with a listening time ratio of over 7:1 compared to podcasts. In the latest update, for the first time, podcast and AM/FM listening are equal among this group, each representing 14% of daily audio time.
