FOX News vs The NY Times: Latest Media Brouhaha

FOX News struck a nerve at The NY Times Monday by criticizing its star reporter Maggie Haberman for contining to target former President Donald Trump.

The Wrap reports Fox News published an article on Monday with the headline “New York Times’ scribe Maggie Haberman can’t quit Trump, largely ignores Biden.” The article noted that Haberman has written or assisted more than 100 articles since Biden was sworn in as president, but said only 8 of them were primarily about Biden.

The article also said at least 70 of the articles Haberman contributed to were about Trump. The article also quoted several commentators who alleged that Haberman served as evidence of “Anti-Trump” bias at the NYT, or that the paper is pandering to “radically leftist readership.”

The article came just one day after Haberman criticized Fox News reporters on Twitter, the deleted her criticism and said “I should be more specific – some Fox shows aired comments I made for several days out of context, and some reporters used them in media stories on the website out of context. A tweet also got mischaracterized today.” Haberman is also an analyst on CNN, a competitor of Fox News.

The FOX News story stated Haberman has been frequently lauded in the mainstream media for her coverage of the Trump White House with reports on palace intrigue, alleged Russian collusion, and other anti-Trump storylines, but she has barely covered President Biden since he took office.

Haberman has written or contributed to more than 100 stories since the day Biden took office and only eight were chiefly about Biden, according to a review of her online profile. The small number of Biden-related stories include pieces about the president’s reaction, or lack thereof, to embattled New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo, D. At least 70 stories Haberman had a hand in since Biden took office have been about Trump, not including other pieces about key figures from his world such as former Vice President Mike Pence and Rudy Giuliani. Dozens of them concerned Trump's second impeachment trial shortly after he left office.

The article was widely shared by conservatives on social media, and caused Haberman to become a trending topic on Twitter. So around 4 PM Pacific, the Times issued a response.

The FOX News story was posted on the same day reporter Ben Smith had an article published in the Times alleging that Fox Host Tucker Carlson, a frequent critic of the 'liberal media', was actually was go-to anonymous source for those same journalists.
