PSKY, WBD Rebrands As Skydance

The combined Paramount–Warner Bros. Discovery will be named Skydance, CEO David Ellison announced Friday, days before the merger is expected to close on October 6.

The deal is expected to take effect Tuesday. Ellison may name the combined company’s leadership team today, people familiar with the planning told CNN, then lead a town hall and hold meetings in Los Angeles and New York.

Ellison said Skydance will be a “creative-first home for bold, quality storytelling.” In a Friday morning post on X, he said the company chose the name so a new corporate identity would not diminish Paramount or Warner Bros.

“As we bring Paramount and Warner Bros. together, we wanted to preserve what has made each of these studios iconic,” he wrote. “Both have distinct identities, extraordinary legacies and brands that have resonated with audiences for generations.” He said the goal was a name that gives the combined company its own identity “while allowing Paramount and Warner Bros. — and all our extraordinary brands — to remain in the spotlight.

Skydance was the production company Ellison founded in 2006. Its website says the name came from his love of aviation: an accomplished pilot, he drew the term from aerobatic flying known as “skydancing,” meant to evoke limitless possibilities. After he took control of Paramount in 2025, he renamed that company Paramount Skydance.
