Beasley Media Group’s WMMR 93.3 FM proudly announces the Preston & Steve Camp Out For
Hunger event raised over 2.3 Million pounds of food and $1.04 Million dollars cash to benefit needy individuals and families residing throughout the greater Philadelphia area.
Proceeds will directly benefit local hunger relief organizations through Philabundance – Delaware Valley’s largest hunger relief organization, which acquires, rescues, and distributes food to help feed those in need, while also advocating for policies that increase food access.
Beginning at 6am on Monday, November 1st through 11am on Friday, November 5, 2021, Radio Hall of Fame Morning Personalities Preston and Steve camped out and broadcast live in the parking lot of Xfinity Live!, located within the Wells Fargo Center Sports Complex in South Philadelphia, in an effort to collect food and monetary donations from listeners and businesses throughout the tri-state area.
The award-winning radio duo started their food drive back in 1998 after recognizing that hunger was a real issue in the Philadelphia area. Their initial goal was to raise one ton of food.
Listeners were welcomed back into the broadcast tent after a year with no audience last year. Dozens of local and national celebrities, performers, and athletes were either on hand, or ‘zoomed in’ this year to lend their support, including comedian Bert Kreischer, Chef Robert Irvine, former Philadelphia Eagles safety Brian Dawkins, PA Attorney General Josh Shapiro, Nick Cannon, Kate Flannery, Adam McKay, Mike Kerr from the band Royal Blood, Marc LaBelle from the band Dirty Honey, Taylor Momsen from the band The Pretty Reckless, local band Froggy, Dr. Mike Cirigliano from Penn Medicine and FOX29, FOX29’s Jennaphr Frederick, 6ABC’s Matt O’Donnell & Jessica Boyington, NBC10’s Tracy Davidson, Erin Coleman, Keith Jones, Lucy Bustamante, Sheila Watko, and Bill Henly, NBC Sports Philadelphia’s Michael Barkann, Philadelphia Flyers hockey alumni Brad Marsh, Scotty Hartnell and Danny Briere, Philadelphia Union soccer head coach Jim Curtain, former Philadelphia Phillies Ricky Bottalico and Mickey Morandini, each of the ‘City 6’ NCAA Men’s Basketball Coaches, and many more.
While online and ACME in-store cash donations were the focal point to maximize social distancing, donations were accepted on site via a ‘Drive Thru’ system to make it contactless, while the volunteers loading the food were treated to free Dunkin coffee in the morning, along with breakfast, lunch and dinner throughout the day from event sponsors. Subaru of America provided the largest donation from a business, – 618,433 pounds of food, earning them a live Preston & Steve broadcast from their headquarters in Camden, New Jersey.
