Milwaukee Radio: After Just 2 Days, 'Big Unit' Off WOKY

Bill Michaels
On Monday, Milwaukee sports-talk station iHeartMedia's WOKY 920 AM announced it was adding longtime radio voice Bill "The Big Unit" Michaels to its daily lineup.

By Wednesday, "The Big Unit" was gone, reports The Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel.

Since January, Michaels has been broadcasting his midday show on Mid-West Family Communications' WOZN-AM/FM in Madison. WOKY said on Twitter Monday that it would air on the iHeartMedia station weekdays from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The show aired on WOKY Monday and Tuesday. But Wednesday, the station was back carrying Colin Cowherd's Fox Sports show, which had been in the time slot before the change. And the tweet announcing Michaels' return to Milwaukee radio had been taken down.

Reached late Wednesday, Michaels confirmed the show won't air on WOKY, at least "for the time being."

Michaels spent more than a dozen years as a sports personality on WTMJ 620 AM. In 2011, after leaving WTMJ, he joined WSSP 1250 AM, where he hosted a show until there was a programming shakeup at the Audacy-owned station at the beginning of this year.

"Audacy sent a cease-and-desist to iHeart," Michaels said.

Michael said the issue is whether his separation agreement with WSSP/Audacy allows him to return to a Milwaukee station as a syndicated show, versus as an employee of a station in the Milwaukee market.
