George Plaster |
According to The Tennessean, Plaster, a fixture for 39 years in local sports talk radio, will launch a weekday call-in show from 3-6 p.m. on WSM 650-AM.
The new show debuts July 15 and will be named "Sports Night with George Plaster."
"Everywhere I'd go over these last three years people would ask me, 'When are you going back on the air?'" Plaster said. "After awhile that started to get to me. It made me realize just how much I missed it. Belmont was a great situation for me with great people and I have no regrets whatsoever, but I have missed radio."
Plaster, a Battle Ground Academy and Vanderbilt graduate, got his first sports talk show in 1989 on WWTN-FM 99.7.
In 2003 he moved to WGFX-FM 104.5 where he was the sports director and host of Sports Zone (3-6 p.m.), which was the top show in Nashville for many years.
He moved to 102.5-FM The Game in 2012 to host a show in the same time slot.
Sticking to WSM 650 AM's long tradition with country music, Kulick said some of today's biggest stars will often serve as guest on Plaster's show.
“Sports have an ever-increasing presence in Nashville. Look no further than the Predators, Titans, our new Major League soccer team and the record-breaking attendance at this year’s NFL Draft,” Kulick said. “We are excited to feature country music artists who are also sports enthusiasts. Many country music fans are also sports fans and Sports Night will allow WSM to reach an even larger country music lifestyle audience.”
Several details about the show are still being worked out, including who will serve as Plaster's co-host.
