R.I.P.: Steve Dodge, Former Radio Broadcast Executive

Florida real estate developer, Steven Dodge died in a bike accident in Florida on Wednesday, according to media reports.

Dodge, 73, was hit by a car while riding his bike in Bonita Springs.

Dodge was an entrepreneur who founded four companies, including American Cablesystems, American Radio Systems and American Tower Corporation.

American Cablesystems was sold to Continental Cable for $450 million in 1988, while American Radio Systems was merged into CBS for a valuation of $2.6 billion.

Dodge started Windover Development in 2003. The company built projects throughout the North Shore, including apartment buildings along Rantoul Street in Beverly, new dorms and buildings at Montserrat College of Art, Endicott College and St. John's Prep, the Beauport Hotel in Gloucester, and several projects for the YMCA.

Dodge and his wife, Anne, became benefactors of Montserrat College and The Cabot theater in Beverly.

According to Lee County Sheriff’s Office, Dodge was riding a bike along a sidewalk when he attempted to make an illegal crossing across the road away from the cross walk.

As he crossed the street at an angle in front of traffic, a car heading in the same direction hit the bike from behind, sending Dodge and his bike into the windshield of the car before sending them airborne.

Dodge was taken to Lee County Memorial where he passed away from his injuries.
