Sanders: 'First Thing' Media Did Was Blame Trump

During a press briefing on Monday, White House Press Secretary Sarah Sanders said it's "outrageous" to blame President Trump for the deadly shooting at a Pittsburgh synagogue or the package bombs that were mailed to high-profile Democrats.

Sanders made the comment after ABC News' Jonathan Karl mentioned that Trump suggested on Friday that he might "tone up" his rhetoric following the mail bomb scare.

"What does he mean by that? And does he have any concern at all that his words could inspire or provoke troubled people to do awful things?" Karl asked.

Sanders said that Trump is looking for ways to bring the country together, pointing out that the very first thing Trump did after both the package bomb mailings and synagogue massacre was to condemn the attacks and attackers.

"The very first thing the media did was blame the president and make him responsible for these ridiculous acts," Sanders said. "It is outrageous that that would be the very first reaction of so many people across this country. ... The only person responsible for carrying either of these heinous acts were the individuals who carried them out."

She said Trump is not responsible for these acts any more than Bernie Sanders was responsible for one of his supporters opening fire on a Republican congressional baseball practice last year.
