Record-setting heavy rainfall doused parts of Texas, Oklahoma and lots of Midwest states over the weekend, which caused major flooding that has forced thousands from their homes and claimed several lives.
All About Country reports Houston and surrounding areas were hit hard, as CBS Radio Country KILT 100.3 FM The Bull Houston PD Bruce Logan reported, “We did the typical morning scramble getting everyone in. Roads were impassable. Most of The Bull staff lives outside the city but that made it difficult. People were turning around and going the wrong way on freeways to escape the water, which was scary because that meant they were headed into oncoming traffic. We took calls from people stranded in their cars. Lots of people slept at the Toyota center last night after the Rockets game. The water came up very fast. Luckily it appears we mostly have property damage right now. We will know more as the water subsides.”
Austin was also hit hard, as iHeartMedia Country KASE 100.7 FM PD JT Bosch said, "It's mostly ok in the city, but with some flooding. Hayes County was hit the hardest, with thousands in shelters. We are working on relief efforts now, but pushing everyone to donate to the Red Cross since Sunday."
Meanwhile, Tyler Country KJKE 93.3 FM JakeFM in Oklahoma City MD Owen Pickard stated that, Severe weather is expected this time of year. What hit everyone hard was the flooding. We covered the tornado warnings on Saturday (5/23) and have kept the listeners informed with the flooding issues. Some smaller communities were hit hard with ponds and lakes overflowing.”
