MI Radio: High Winds Down WUPM 106.9 FM Tower

High winds last week felled a radio tower used for Classic Hits WUPM 106.9 FM 107.

According to the Gogebic County Sheriff's Department strong winds knocked the tower down Thursday, which is located on a hill in the Bessemer area, near Ironwood, Michigan on the Upper Peninsula.

WUPM confirms it returned to the air Friday afternoon at 106.9 FM using the transmitter site of its sister-translator at 92.9 FM, interrupting the FM simulcast of Oldies WHRY 1450 AM.

The station acknowledged offers of  support from the community and from other area broadcasters, broadcast engineers, and radio tower owners.  The station reports it had offers of equipment, antenna systems, transmitters, technically support and even tower space.
