Tampa Radio: Cox Fires Two Talkers At The Bone

Cox Radio has fired two longtime personalities from the “hot talk” station WHPT-FM 102.5 The Bone, including one host who seemingly has a tense relationship with one of the station’s biggest stars, shock jock Bubba the Love Sponge Clem.

According to Eric Deggans at Tampa Bay Times, Matt “Spice” Loyd, who hosted The Spice Show on WHPT weeknights at 7 p.m. and once worked as a member of Clem’s radio team, was let go Monday, along with Chris Fisher, known mostly to fans by his last name.

Fisher blamed economics for his departure, saying he knew Cox Radio wouldn’t pay a full salary to have him host his show, The Fisher Experiment, from 3 a.m. to 5 a.m. weekdays.

“I knew overnights were just a placeholder until they could figure out what to do with me,” said Fisher, 41, who added this was his fourth firing in a career which included stations in Tallahassee, Orlando and Daytona. “It wasn’t about performance...I just realized this is part of the business.”

Loyd posted on Twitter Monday that “budget cuts” were also the reason he was given for the change. His show debuted last year when the station converted to a male-oriented, music-less hot talk format which seemed to have worked in the ratings.

    Bubba is a crappy host.I don't understand why people like his show. He sounds like a spit talker. His name should be Bubba Flem.

    if its true that bubba got them fired for personal reasons then thats a very nonproffesional move. thats messing with peoples livelyhood. either way i'll never listen to that station again. Bubba`s trash

    Bubba sucks, his show is terrible and I have no clue why it is so popular. I didn't very much care for Spice or Fisher either so no big loss there.

    Come on Bubba is the greatest there is. Stop it all you jealous haters. Why would he be # 1 all the time if his show sucked? He has the listeners, so he must be doing things right. Spice hung his own self. He needed to just sit back and get along. I loved Fisher. I am sad that he is gone.

      what's your argument that bubba's the greatest there is? publicity? he's a boring kinda guy. the whole bubba army thing is pretty corny and consists of drug addicts and elderly ppl looking for attention when they call in the radio, hoping bubba will acknowledge/praise that they own a bubba army tshirt. there are better shows that are more intelligent and witty, such as in your face with drew and the cowhead show. he's an older dog that you can't teach new tricks to. bubba needs ned/manson to keep his show interesting.

    Bubba isn't the talent on that show it's the ned character played by Manson and his lyrical genius that keeps people listening, he's the one who should host the show, bubba just throws his weight around trying to be the big star or should I say wonna be big star, as for matt lloyd it's a shame he took the brunt of this crap, he had talent and his fresh ideas kept people listening plus fisher in the mornings was a breath of fresh air listening to him, I wish both good luck for the future and also to Manson who really needs to move on to greener pastures.

    I hate how bubba is viewed as a god in the radio world. he has to dig himself out of a hole every show he has due to his close mind. it's a shame spice had biased influence on his departure. "ned" and manson make that show flow when bubba has nothing better to say, which is all the time. bubba only reports things from the news and has 0 personality/insight that means anything. he's super boring. his sister should be running the show before he does, when his sister gives only little insight because bubba hardly lets anyone speak. he's not a terrible person, just not fit for a bigger role than cowhead show at least. the cowhead should dominate 102.5 imo.

    I miss Fisher. now I have to listen to George on coast to coast 99.9 oh well anythings better than Drew Garabo replays I mean he is #2 for a reason cuz he acts like a teenage girl. he does this thing its called the post n block but with callers. he always has to
    have the last word like a republican

    Matt gave most of his life to the BRN. I have known him since I was ten years old. He is truly one of the hardest working most genuine guy that i have known. He'll come back on his own terms. He always does.

    To be completely honest, I would have to say every show is great throughout the day besides the Billy Madison Show. That is the only time I turn off The Bone. 2 hours of idiots floating through life with no point of views. Then Drew comes back on at noon and its 102.5 until I get home, all day every day.
