DirecTV customers dealing with a blackout of Disney-owned channels ESPN and ABC will soon face another challenge – a higher bill.
The company is raising prices for its satellite TV and streaming services effective Oct. 6, 2024. The new prices will go into effect on their next billing cycle.
“We’re adjusting the price of your television package to remain competitive in the marketplace, while still delivering the best possible programming. TV networks are continuing to increase the fees they charge DirecTV for the right to distribute the content they produce, including movies, shows, and sporting events. We remain steadfast in our commitment to bring you the best programming at a fair and reasonable price,” the company said a website announcement.
DirecTV Stream Choice will increase by $6 a month to $114.99 and DirecTV Stream Ultimate will now cost $129.99, an increase of $10. DirecTV’s satellite packages will increase from between $2 and $10, based on the service, and most regional sports fees will be boosted by up to $2 a month. The Protection Plan will go from $8.99 a month to $9.99 a month.
The ongoing dispute with Disney has blacked out popular channels even as college and professional football gets underway, drawing the ire of many of its customers. DirecTV recently offered users a $20 credit towards their bill and then offered a credit towards rival streaming services FUBO and Sling.
