Boston Radio: John Dennis Says Kirk Minihane Is 'Instigator'

Relations between WEEI 93.7 FM's John Dennis  and his morning show on-air partners have been on the decline for more than a year, and word is, Dennis has had it.

The Boston Herald is reporting last summer he went off on Gerry Callahan and Kirk Minihane, saying they were trying to freeze him out.

“There is just this total indifference,” Dennis said on the air, adding that Minihane was “the instigator.”

“He wants to be the straw that stirs the drink,” he said.

Minihane joined the “Dennis & Callahan” show in 2013 and since then ratings have
increased — especially when he is “instigating.”

While it’s no secret that Dennis is tired of Minihane’s schtick, some insiders suspect that it is only part of the reason he wants out.

“You can do a radio show with someone you don’t get along with,” said one source. “But it’s just a grind getting up every day at 4 a.m. and he’s been doing it for
19 years.”

Dennis and management will be discussing his future over the next two weeks and whether he can return to the station in some capacity.

Entercom bosses are said to be wary of losing him prematurely because he has strong endorsement relationships with a number of advertisers.

  1. Minihane is horrible. It'll be interesting when new ratings come out and they show a decline. He'll just blame it on the revolving 3rd chair. His audience is limited. There are only so many mother's basements in Boston with so many 30-somethings in them playing xbox.

    1. I agree that both of these guys are classless, pompous, and irritating to listen to. Bring back John Dennis.

  2. I am appalled at the way K and C treat the people who call into their show. Yes, there are some people who make no sense or seem clueless or ignorant; however, they never give people a chance to talk, talk over the callers, and can be extremely rude and insulting to them. These people wait on hold a long time and deserve to be treated as the loyal listeners they are. I am sick of their pompous attitudes. John Dennis had class and is sorely missed.
