Columbia SC Radio: EMF To Acquire WMHK-FM

Columbia International University has sold off a popular local Christian radio station to a Educational Media Foundation.

WMHK 89.7 FM, which was owned by the university, was sold to K-LOVE Radio Network for $10.5 million, according to a release from the school.

Seven staff members who work at the radio station were laid off as a result of the station's sale. They will receive a severance package.

CIU President Dr. Bill Jones told the employees about the sale two weeks ago, school spokesperson Bob Holmes said.

Jones said he is "proud of the way the radio station staffs have handled the announcement, and the professional manner in which they are making the transition of the radio stations to the new ownership as smooth as possible."
