A national poll conducted by Peak Insights from June 29 to July 1, 2025, among 1,000 likely U.S. voters found that a majority trust public media more than media overall.
The survey, commissioned by the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB), revealed that 53% of voters trust public media networks and local stations to report news "fully, accurately, and fairly," compared to only 35% who trust media in general.
Voters also highly value public media’s core services, including emergency alerts (82%), children’s educational programming (66%), local programming (66%), and national news reporting (60%).
The poll was conducted as the U.S. Senate prepared to vote Friday on the Rescissions Act of 2025, which proposed cutting $1.1 billion in approved funding for CPB. The findings highlight public media’s role in providing trusted, unbiased information and its importance to civic engagement and local communities.
