The 40th anniversary special of Saturday Night Live broke a record on Twitter on Sunday (February 15th.) There were 1.3 million tweets were sent out during the broadcast which were seen by 9.1 million people. The tweets were viewed over 188 million times which is the highest number for any series episode in history. The numbers do not include special shows like the Super Bowl or the Grammys. It also beat out The Walking Dead as the most-watched show of the night.

Nielsen Twitter TV Ratings Weekly Top Ten lists are ranked by Unique Audience and include four metrics for each of the top Series and Specials episodes and Sports Events airings.
Tweets - Tweets ascribed to a linear TV episode.
Unique Authors – Unique Twitter accounts that have sent at least one Tweet ascribed to a specific TV episode.
Impressions - The number of times any Tweets ascribed to a TV episode were seen.
Unique Audience - The total number of distinct Twitter accounts accruing at least one impression of one or more different Tweets ascribed to a TV episode.
