He said that after Thursday morning's show, he met with station management over his contract and his duties, and at the end of the meeting he was asked to empty his desk and was escorted out of the building.
"It was a contract dispute. Basically, that's what it worked out to," said the 64-year-old Powers. He moved to Kalamazoo and took over the 6 a to 10 a.m. morning slot on Oct. 13. His talk show covered local news, as well as other topics, including stories from his career in the entertainment world.
He said he worked 70 hours a week on the show and was asked to pick up more duties, which he felt were not reasonable.
Prior to coming to Kalamazoo, Powers worked as a host at WBT 110 AM in Charlotte, N.C. Powers moved to Charlotte from Los Angeles, Calif., about 20 years before that.
In California, Powers appeared in several television shows, including "Laverne & Shirley," "Simon & Simon," "Doogie Howser," "Full House" and "Murder She Wrote," among others. He also starred in the popular sitcom, "13 East," on NBC for two seasons.
Powers also provided voice work for animation, video games and commercials, including as "Wayne" the talking crow from Windex commercials.
Powers joined the station one year after longtime WKZO morning show host Lori Moore left the station after 18 years.
