17-Year veteran personality Cipha Sounds is "no longer with Hot 97," station executives announced Tuesday.
The announcement comes less than 24 hours after the radio personality publicly vented his frustration with the New York station's handling of the abrupt departure of longtime radio DJ Angie Martinez in June.
WQHT 97.1 FM announced last week it has hired Nessa Nitty as the permanent afternoon host, leaving Cipha Sounds in other unspecified positions.
According to NJ.Com, Cipha Sounds, born Luis Diaz, on Monday's episode of the Juan Epstein podcast he hosts alongside Hot 97 morning co-host Peter Rosenberg expressed his frustration with the latest programming shakeups since Martinez switched stations and joined rival Power 105.1.
In the immediate aftermath, Cipha Sounds was said to be filling Martinez's coveted 3 p.m. slot but never did so formally.
Cipha Sounds also said on the podcast that he received a job offer from Power 105.1 before Martinez made the switch, but stayed at Hot 97 out of loyalty.
Hot 97 said the following in a statement today: "Effective immediately, Cipha Sounds is no longer with WQHT HOT 97 FM. We wish him well on his future endeavors."
