Coach Belichick Accuses CBS News Of A 'False Narrative'

Coach Belichick and Jordon Hudson

Bill Belichick, the renowned football coach and current head coach of the University of North Carolina Tar Heels, publicly criticized CBS for what he described as a "false narrative" following a controversial interview on CBS Sunday Morning that aired on Sunday.

The interview, intended to promote his memoir The Art of Winning: Lessons from a Life in Football, became widely discussed due to the actions of his 24-year-old girlfriend, Jordon Hudson, who was present during the segment.

During the interview, CBS correspondent Tony Dokoupil asked Belichick, 73, how he met Hudson. Before Belichick could respond, Hudson, who was seated off-camera, interjected with, “We’re not talking about this,” effectively shutting down the question. This moment was described as "painfully awkward" and went viral on social media, sparking widespread criticism and speculation about Hudson’s influence over Belichick.

Dokoupil noted in a voiceover that Hudson was a “constant presence” during the interview, and reports later emerged that she interrupted multiple times, including on football-related questions, and at one point stormed out, causing a 30-minute delay in filming.

Belichick’s Response:
On Wednesday, Belichick released a statement through UNC, addressing the portrayal of Hudson in the interview. He claimed that CBS’s editing suggested a “false narrative” that Hudson was attempting to control the conversation, which he asserted was “simply not true.”

Belichick stated that he and CBS had agreed the interview would focus solely on his book, and Hudson’s interjection was meant to “reiterate that point to help refocus the discussion.” He defended her actions as an effort to keep the interview on track.

Hudson’s Actions Post-Interview: Following the backlash, Hudson took to Instagram to share a screenshot of an email Belichick sent on April 10, 2025, to his representatives, expressing frustration with media coverage of his book. In the email, Belichick criticized an article for focusing on a Super Bowl mistake he admitted to in the book, rather than its broader themes. Hudson captioned the post, “Full statement to be released later today,” suggesting an attempt to shift attention from the interview controversy.

Hudson also became active on X, a platform she hadn’t used in over three months, retweeting posts defending her and Belichick’s actions during the interview. Some of these were directed at critics like Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy, who called the interview “awkward” and raised concerns about Hudson’s influence.

Insiders, including friends and colleagues, have reportedly expressed alarm over Hudson’s growing influence, describing her as a “runaway train.” Some have approached Belichick cautiously about the relationship, noting the “brutal optics” of the CBS interview.
