D/FW Radio: Tom Joyner Named Grand Marshal of King Parade

Tom Joyner made history in 1985 as the radio DJ who signed two contracts with two stations in different cities — a morning show in Dallas and an afternoon show in Chicago. Thus the ubiquitous broadcaster earned the nickname “fly jock” and his place in radio annals as he commuted by plane between the cities for eight years.

Always raising the bar, Joyner now will add a bit more excitement to an already popular Dallas event.

According to The Dallas Morning News, the legendary host of the nationally syndicated Tom Joyner Morning Show will be grand marshal of the 2016 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. annual parade sponsored by The Elite News, recognized as one of the largest King commemorative events in the nation.

The 30th annual 2016 Elite News King parade will be Jan. 18, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, promoting the theme “Reflect. Celebrate. Vote!” Joyner is a strong advocate of voter registration and of historically black college and universities. The Tuskegee, Ala., native graduated from historically black Tuskegee University, formerly Tuskegee Institute.
