Bloomberg LP is naming product head Vlad Kliatchko chief executive and appointing former Bank of England governor Mark Carney as chair of its new board of directors, according to Reuters citing an internal memo sent to employees by founder Michael Bloomberg.
The company’s elevation of the head of product “reinforces the foundation that Michael Bloomberg has had for the company since he founded it: he puts the product first, which has been primarily the terminal,” said Douglas B. Taylor, analyst at International Consulting who covers Bloomberg LP.

New members will be appointed to the board and existing members will become emeritus, according to the memo.
Board chair Carney currently serves as United Nations special envoy on climate action and finance; in his memo Bloomberg said he has worked with Carney on climate finance initiatives.
“Much of our success stems from internal mobility, giving the next generation a chance to grow and lead, while bringing in the best and brightest to give us a fresh perspective,” Bloomberg wrote in the memo.
Bloomberg, who does not function as chief executive, said he is not leaving the company. "I'm sure these changes raise questions about me, so let me put them to rest: I'm not going anywhere," he said in the memo.
