“Oh my God, is that me?” he recalls thinking when his cardiologist showed him images of his failing heart valve. “He said without surgery, you’ve got three months to live.”
The 71-year-old Cunningham successfully underwent a procedure to implant a new aortic valve through his femoral artery on April 4. He was home the next day, tweeting to his nearly 13,000 Twitter followers:
Heart valve surgery.. Thursday at 11am... Home.. Friday at noon.. Christ Hosp and Dr Dean Kereiakis are beyond amazing..This is a medical miracle happening daily.. Told to keep a low profile for..7 days..Heartfelt thanks for all the prayers and well wishes..Thank you.. Thank you.— Bill Cunningham (@Willie700WLW) April 6, 2019
He's planning to return on-air this Friday.
