MSNBC President Phil Griffin has been in charge of “dayside” programming, along with Managing Editor Rashida Jones. Rodriguez will handle those daytime duties, reporting to both Griffin and NBC News President Deborah Turness.

While Rodriguez’s promotion frees up Griffin to focus elsewhere, his reduced daytime role has sparked speculation that the longtime network boss is being eased out — despite assurances from top brass that he is safe. A network survivor, Griffin has been with MSNBC since its beginning in 1996 and has weathered all manner of storms.
The latest change follows a string of recent embarrassments for the flailing network, which was already losing ratings ground during this heated election season.
