Al Stevens |
He was 62-years-of-age according to CBS Local.
Stevens joined the KMOX newsroom in 2000, anchoring newscasts and writing stories. For more than a decade, Stevens served as KMOX Production Director, coordinating the recording of commercials for clients, and voicing many commercials in his clear, distinct delivery.
Raised in a broadcast family, Stevens got his first job at WGNU where his father worked as Program Director. Stevens was a boyhood friend of Peter Maer in Granite City. Maer has said his exposure to radio through the Stevens family drew him into broadcast journalism.
In his early career, Stevens worked at WEW and KEZK, ending up at WIL as an evening disc jockey from 1978 through 1993.
Stevens also worked for years on the KMOX Holiday Radio Show. His was the first voice listeners heard as he would announce, “Live… it’s the KMOX Holiday Radio Show.” During the program he would help with the sound effects, but always insisted that someone else fire the starter pistol – so he could cover his ears.
