The race for Broadcast TV News ratings is hot to start the new year.
"ABC World News Tonight With David Muir" won in total viewers last week while "NBC Nightly News With Lester Holt" was the victor with the 25-to-54 age group. That age group is most important to news advertisers.
The Orlando Sentinel reports ABC averaged 9.772 million viewers last week while NBC delivered 9.687 million. The "CBS Evening News With Scott Pelley" ranked third with 8.206 million.
ABC highlighted that it is averaging its largest overall audience in 11 years and that it is as close to NBC as it has been in eight years. ABC also won in total viewers the previous week -- the first time it has pulled off that feat in eight months.
In the 25-to-54 age group, NBC averaged 2.418 million viewers to ABC's 2.193 million and CBS' 1.981 million.
NBC also won the 18-to-49 age group. ABC finished second there, and CBS was third.
Despite the second-place finish in total viewers, NBC highlighted that it had its biggest overall audience in five weeks.
