Twin Cities Radio: Kudos To Sid Hartman On Reaching Milestone

Broadcaster and columnist Sid Hartman has been the ultimate sports insider for six decades.  He was already a well-known newspaper columnist when he joined the staff of WCCO 830 AM in 1955. Since then, he has become one of the station’s most popular personalities.

Tuesday, he celebrated an unprecedented 60 years with the CBS RADIO station.  At the age of 95, Hartman is one of CBS’s oldest employees.

Throughout his career, Hartman has interviewed nearly everyone in the sports world, become an integral part of the station’s Minnesota Twins, Vikings, North Stars, and Gophers broadcasts, hosted features like “Hartman’s Corner” and “Today’s Sports Hero,” and reported the daily sports news.

His Sunday morning “Sports Huddle” program, which he has hosted for 26 years with Chuck Lilligren and Dave Mona, is a sports fan favorite throughout the market.

In 2011, Hartman was honored by both the Minnesota Timberwolves and the Los Angeles Lakers before a game for his contributions to both organizations, when he served as the acting general manager of Minneapolis Lakers.

In addition, the Minnesota Twins honored him with “Sid Hartman Day” at Target Field in 2014, and as a part of the MLB All-Star game festivities that year, a youth baseball field in Hartman’s boyhood N. Minneapolis neighborhood was named “Sid Hartman Field.”
