19-year veteran Jim Allan, who has served as general manager of Country Legends KTPK 106.9 FM since 2002, and five other staff members at the radio station were “let go” Monday, Allan said.
The move happened one day before the station’s new owners take over, according to the Topeka Capital-Journal.
“I’ve been with the station going on 19 years,” Allan said.
He said he was “a little bit” shocked about the decision to cut him and some of his staff members.
It was announced in May that Alpha Media, based in Portland, Ore., reached a definitive agreement to purchase radio stations from Morris Communications. Alpha Media is scheduled to take over Country Legends 106.9 on Tuesday, Allan said.
“It was a hard way they did it to my staff,” Allan said about Monday’s move.
Besides Allan, the station’s promotions director, webmaster and three part-time employees were cut.
