Rdio, a leading global music streaming service available in 85 countries and territories, announces the appointment of Iain Morris as Vice President of Global Music Publishing, effective today.
Morris will be based in the UK and joins the recently expanded team in London.
In his new role, Morris will be responsible for leading all discussions and negotiations with music publishers and collection societies. Morris will report directly to Jim Rondinelli, SVP, Head of Content Licensing and Catalog at Rdio.
“Iain Morris is one of the most respected and digital-savvy executives in the music publishing industry, and I am delighted that he has chosen to join us at Rdio,” said Rondinelli. “Some of the most challenging issues facing the music industry today revolve around striking a fair and equitable balance between songwriters, publishers, performing rights societies and streaming music services. Iain uniquely understands the needs of all of the stakeholders seeking to create a sustainable business model for the future of the music industry. I’m excited for what we will be able to accomplish together as we expand the company’s global presence.”
“I am passionate about Rdio’s best-in-class product and am thrilled to have the opportunity to help the company continue its international growth,” said Morris. “I look forward to expanding upon Rdio’s position as a global leader in music streaming while partnering with publishers and collection societies to move the industry forward.”
Prior to joining Rdio, Morris was Head of Digital, EMEA at Warner/Chappell Music Publishing, the music publishing arm of Warner Music Group, leading the company’s licensure discussions with EU and global streaming music services.
